The bigger uncertainty is how much of an uptick in mortgage rates the real estate market can handle without cracking. 

“In the short run, higher rates will translate into lower home prices,” says Scaramella. “But in the long run, lower home prices should be offset by less burdensome regulation on lenders which should bring more home buyers into the market.”
