Dr. Dave Yeske is being honored with the Financial Planning Association’s top award, the 2017 P. Kemp Fain Jr. Award, FPA announced Tuesday.

Yeske was selected because of his leadership in the profession. Yeske has directly contributed significant time and talent to building the body of professional knowledge in the profession, FPA says.

A recipient of the FPA Heart of Financial Planning Award in 2012, Yeske is managing director of Yeske Buie, a comprehensive financial planning firm with offices in Vienna, Va., and San Francisco.

He founded the San Francisco Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and has held leadership roles in FPA, including president of the FPA Board of Directors in 2003 and chair in 2004, chair of the FPA Political Action Committee in 2005 and 2006, and chair of FPA’s Research Center Team and its Academic Advisory Council from 2007 to 2012.

Currently Yeske serves as practitioner editor of FPA’s Journal of Financial Planning. In addition to his many leadership roles, he has been a prolific spokesperson for the profession at conferences and with the media, FPA says.

The award is named for the late P. Kemp Fain Jr. and honors an exceptional individual who has made outstanding contributions to the financial planning profession, FPA says.

“With a passion for teaching and mentoring the next generation of financial planners, Dr. Yeske holds an appointment as Distinguished Adjunct Professor in Golden Gate University’s Ageno School of Business, where he is director of the University’s financial planning program,” FPA says.

FPA President Shannon J. Pike says, “Dave is one of those dynamic voices and leaders who has mastered so many areas of financial planning and is a true historian of our profession. He has never rested on his accomplishments and continues to support the next generation of financial planners through education and mentorship both in and out of FPA.”

The award will be presented at the 2017 FPA annual conference in Nashville Oct. 2 to Oct. 4.
