Insurance Education Group Names Officers, Directors

Debra C. Newman of Minneapolis, Minn., has been selected as chair of the board of directors of the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE), an organization designed to inform the public of life, health, disability and long-term care insurance issues.

Newman is founder of Newman Long Term Care, one of the  largest long-term care marketing organizations in the country. She was included in 2007 as one of the top ten members  of the Power List of the Who's Who in long-term care insurance and was named a 2009 five-star wealth manager by Twin Ciities Business and Minneapolis-St. Paul magazines. She replaces Michael L. Weintraub of Walnut Creek, Calif.. who will remain on the executive committee as immediate past chair.

Stehen O. Rothschild of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Naples, Fla., will serve as chair-elect, and Cindy V. Gentry of Corpus Christie, Texas, will be secretary. The officers serve a one-year term beginning at the first of the year. Brian H. Ashe of Lisle, Ill., continues as treasurer serving an indefinite term.

LIFE also appointed four new members to the board of directors. Joining the board is Douglas A. Mishkin, who is president and CEO of Algren Associates Inc. in New York City. He was the 2008 chairman of the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies. Nathan M. Perlmutter, president and CEO of New York state-based Forest Hills Financial Group Inc., will also be on the board. He founded the agency in 1980 as a general agent of the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, New Yor City.

Also joining the board is Matt McAvoy, president and second-generation family member of Kansas-based Target Insurance Services Inc. He participated in the U.S. Treasury Department meetings on behalf of the life insurance industry in 2006. Robert N. Garneau is also a new member. A corporate registered investment advisor with MassMutual, he has been in the insurance industry since 1977, focusing on individual and business markets primarily in retirement and estate planning.
