Laurie Belew, CFP, senior financial advisor with FJY Financial in Reston, Va., has been named 2014 president-elect of FPA NexGen, an organization for young financial advisors, FPA announced Tuesday.

Belew has been an FPA member since 2004 and served on the task force for the 2007 and 2009 NexGen conferences. She is a leader of the efforts to bring NexGen events to the FPA chapter in Washington, D.C.

She earned a master's of science degree in personal financial planning and a master's of business administration degree from Texas Tech University.

The mission of NexGen is to transfer the wisdom, tradition and integrity from the pioneers of the profession to the next generation, says Andrew Sivertsen, NexGen 2013 president-elect. NexGen is open to advisors 36 years of age and younger.

“The relationships young advisors build, and the diverse knowledge-sharing opportunities this community offers, are instrumental in developing future leaders of the financial planning profession,” says Lauren M. Schadle, FPA executive director and CEO.
