The former head of SunTrust Banks' sports and entertainment client division has been named CEO of GenSpring Family Offices.

Thomas M. Carroll succeeds Maria Elena (Mel) Lagomasino, who has left the multifamily office after seven years with the company.

GenSpring is among the nation's largest and most prominent multifamily offices, serving more than 700 wealthy families and managing more than $19 billion in client assets.

A 16-year SunTrust veteran, Carroll has held various positions in the bank's private wealth management business, including serving as wealth services manager in Atlanta.

"Thomas's proven leadership skills and experience as well as knowledge of the needs of ultra-high-net-worth clients make him uniquely qualified to lead this business," said William H. Rogers Jr., chairman and CEO of SunTrust Banks.

Carroll led SunTrust's Sports and Entertainment Group, which provides private wealth management services to sports, music and entertainment professionals and executives as well as financial services to sports, music and film organizations.
