The FPA is creating a Research and Practice Institute to generate tools and resources to help financial planners improve their businesses, the FPA announced Sunday at the FPA annual conference, Experience 2013, in Orlando, Fla.

The institute will help planners manage their businesses in the face of increasing regulation, growth in technology and the need to find quality staff, according to the FPA.

The inaugural project for the institute will be a collaboration with New York-based Advisor Impact on an industry-wide survey to gather information about practice-related needs, deficiencies and interests.

“Through targeted business research specific to the planning community, the FPA Research and Practice Institute will provide our members with greater clarity on business challenges and opportunities facing today’s planner and a better understanding of what they can do to achieve a higher level of effectiveness and prosperity,” said Lauren Schadle, FPA executive director and CEO.
