Matthew R. Hanson, former managing director of institutional sales at John Hancock Investments, has joined Kayne Anderson Rudnick as a senior wealth advisor in the firm’s recently opened Boston office, Kayne Anderson Rudnick announced Thursday.

Kayne Anderson Rudnick is a boutique wealth management firm based in Los Angeles with offices across the United States. The firm, which serves high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients, has $12.8 billion in client assets.

Hanson’s hiring and the opening of the Boston office expand the firm’s presence to the East Coast. The firm was founded in 1984 by Richard Kayne, an investment manager, and John Anderson, a businessman and Forbes 400 billionaire.

Hanson joins the firm with more than a decade of experience in business development and relationship management at John Hancock. He served in his previous role since 2011, focusing on the marketing and sales of mutual funds and separately managed accounts. During that time he helped increase John Hancock’s mutual fund and ETF Institutional advisory business on the West Coast, says Kayne Anderson Rudnick.
