Eileen Rominger, director of the Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Investment Management, will retire in July, SEC officials said today.

The Division of Investment Management is responsible for protecting investors and promoting capital formation through oversight and regulation of the nation's multi-trillion-dollar investment management industry. During Rominger's two-year tenure, the division has overseen implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act's mandates regarding advisors to hedge funds and other private funds.

"Eileen understood the importance of a fair and efficient investment management industry to the well being of investors everywhere," said SEC Chairman Mary L. Schapiro in a prepared statement. "Her practical insights and steady leadership served investors well."

Prior to joining the SEC in 2010, Rominger worked as a portfolio manager and leader of portfolio management teams. She worked at Goldman Sachs Asset Management for 11 years, serving most recently as the firm's global chief investment officer. Prior to that, Rominger worked at Oppenheimer Capital for 18 years, where she was a portfolio manager, managing director and a member of the executive committee.
