T. Rowe Price Group Inc. said its Baltimore headquarters on 100 E. Pratt Street will stay closed Tuesday after riots erupted in the city.

Employees were told to work from home or other offices, Brian Lewbart, a spokesman for the company, said in an e-mail. T. Rowe will remain open for business, he said.

Legg Mason Inc., also based in Baltimore, is encouraging employees to work from home, although the company’s headquarters are open, Mary Athridge, a Legg Mason spokeswoman, said in a telephone interview.

Riots broke out in the Maryland city after the funeral of a black man who died of injuries suffered while he was in police custody, prompting officials to declare a state of emergency, impose a curfew and close schools. Cars and several buildings were burned on Monday as police were attacked with rocks and bricks.

“As always, the safety and security of our associates remains our paramount concern,” Lewbart of T. Rowe Price said. The firm will “continue to monitor the situation in consultation with local authorities to determine what additional steps, if any, may need to be taken.”
