Since we’re in the thick of Lent, a religious observance in Christianity, and finished with Mardi Gras and Carnival, it seemed appropriate to present the top 10 least sinful states in the U.S. -- the top 10 do-gooders.

WalletHub went through various research and studies from government and non-government institutions to determine which U.S. states are the least tempted by the seven deadly sins: wrath (as demonstrated by crimes and maltreatment); envy (evinced by thefts); gluttony; greed (casinos and gambling); lust (teen birth rates and XXX entertainment sites); vanity (beauty salons and search queries for plastic surgery); and laziness (by the share of adults not exercising, volunteering or graduating from high school).

Mississippi has the lowest population of gambling disorders and fewer beauty salons per capita than most of the other U.S. states do, but it has the highest percentage of time spent on adult entertainment sites, demonstrating the sin of lust, which was a possible factor in why it didn’t make the top 10.

Here is the list of the 10 least sinful states in ascending order.

10. South Dakota

Although, South Dakota has quite a bit of a temper and problems with greed, the state is not big on jealousy, vices or vanity, and it has a fairly active community.
