For advisors reluctant to completely abandon active funds, one strategy is to limit the presence of active funds within client portfolios by making index-tracking funds and ETFs the core holdings while restricting active funds to the satellite, or non-core portion of the portfolio. Using this simple approach can help clients reduce exposure to the consistent market underperformance of actively managed funds.
