She made her first cross country trip in 2013 and five years later went to a second BMW rally in Iowa, this time riding alone, so she could experience some of the things the open road had to offer.

“A lot of intensive planning goes into preparing for a trip like this because you can’t bring much," she said. "You have to consider ‘what if’ and go from there. When we left for Portland, it was 95 degrees and humid. It was awful, so we stopped at a hotel for a night to regroup. The trip was a metaphor for financial planning. You just take one step at a time. The trips were also a motivational tool. For instance, you can create fear in your life, but what actually happens is amazingness. I’m proud of myself for doing it.”

Sloan said she wants her clients to value their health and time, more so than their money. “That’s a powerful thing,” she said.

One of Sloan’s clients who was in her 30s wanted to take a year off from work to travel. With Sloan’s help and some intense planning, the woman was able to take a year off to participate in an overseas humanitarian project. “Everyone wants to live without regrets, so, if not now, when?” she said.

Because of Covid, Sloan has worked remotely from Bend, Ore., where her partner lives, for the last six months and she said she will probably continue to work from home even after the pandemic passes.

Last month, Sloan Advisory Group joined Dynamic Wealth Advisors, a support organization for advisors based in Phoenix, so that she can focus on working with clients. Dynamic has 80 investment advisor representatives and RIAs with a total of $2.5 billion in assets. Dynamic provides a platform and client portal, as well as a client services team for reporting, billing and other support services. Dynamic’s Portfolio Services team provides investment research, selects and rebalances accounts, plus back office services.

“Rachel is good at articulating her vision to her clients. She attracts clients who share her vision and she is very good at engaging people," Jim Cannon, founder and CEO of Dynamic, said in an interview. “Rachel has deep understanding of what she wants in life and the outcomes she wants for her clients. I think that is an alignment that a lot of advisors miss. She is trying to take advantage of every moment of every day.”

Sloan said she wants to focus on the connection between love and money for her clients during the next year, no matter what stage the clients might be in in their lives “I want to help people see how they come together over money and help them be joyous in their lives,” Sloan said.

But she is not through traveling. She and her partner have purchased a truck and camper and will be traveling the country, this time on more than two wheels, while she continues to work remotely. “We have a beautiful country; I want to see more of it,” she said.
