A 26-year-old employee of Pence Wealth Management in Newport Beach, Calif., has been arrested and charged with murdering a 23-year-old coworker and his roommate, according to published reports.

Ramy Fahim of Irvine, Calif., is being held in jail without bail, accused of stabbing coworker Griffin Cuomo and Cuomo’s roommate, Jonathan Bahm, in the early morning hours on Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The building is well equipped with surveillance cameras and residents also have doorbell cameras, at least one of which captured an image of Fahim entering the building a few hours before the killings, which took place around 6:30 a.m., the newspaper reported.

According to Pence Wealth’s website, Griffin joined the firm's marketing and media team in May 2021 after graduating from Chapman University with a degree in strategic and corporate communications. Griffin’s bio states he grew up on San Juan Island in Washington state and was known for his dedication to the Seattle Seahawks.

"We are devestated," said a Pence Wealth employee who did not want to be identified. "We're really struggling with this. We're cooperating fully with authorities and ask that any questions be directed to the police department."

While Anaheim police identified Fahim as also working at Pence Wealth, Fahim is not registered on BrokerCheck, nor is he mentioned on the firm's website as a professional employee. On his LinkedIn page, Fahim identifies himself as a research associate at the firm.

When police responded to reports of a possible assault taking place, they found the two victims dead in the apartment and Fahim with minor injuries, reports stated. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then arrested. Detectives recovered a large knife at the scene and impounded Fahim’s car, according to published reports.

“It is a little surprising that something like this would happen there, but it’s not like this was a random act of violence,” Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer told the Los Angeles Times.

According to the Orange County Register, court documents detailed that Fahim was allegedly “lying in wait” for at least one of the victims before they were stabbed. Responding police officers encountered an “extensive crime scene” inside the residence, Carringer said.

In addition, a man who lives in the building said he was trying to get into the elevator when he noticed something was wrong, reported local news channel KTLA5. “There’s blood all inside the elevator. The officer says, ‘don’t touch the controls,'” KTLA5 reported the resident as saying, adding that another neighbor said there was blood “everywhere,” including the elevator and the hallway.

Fahim had no previous record of violent crime in Orange County, according to the Register. He now faces two counts of murder and may be eligible for the death penalty or life without parole if convicted as charged, considering the alleged special circumstances of lying in wait and multiple homicides.
