Alvin Carlos, co-founder and CEO of District Capital Management in Washington, D.C., is the winner of the Financial Planning Association Retreat 2018 Diversity Scholarship, the FPA announced Wednesday.

The award recognizes a professional who is working to encourage diversity in the financial planning profession and the population served. The merit-based scholarship recipient earns one-year of FPA membership and complimentary registration and travel expenses to the FPA Retreat 2018 later this month near Phoenix.

Carlos is a member of the FPA of the National Capital Area. He volunteers to support pro bono financial planning efforts, including Baltimore’s Money Power Day and similar events aimed at providing financial resources, education and advice to underserved populations, the FPA said.
