The most commonly cited reasons that retirees cited for a decline in happiness during retirement were income and the cost of living. More than one-third of current retirees said that health problems are interfering with their retirement. Among retirees with health problems, 75 percent said the problems occurred sooner than expected.

For the report, Nationwide surveyed 1,012 adults aged 50 or older between May 26 and June 6, 2017.
