The fledgling Sports Financial Advisors Association
is holdings its inaugural national conference in Woodlands, Texas, this month.
The conference, originally scheduled for October
2005 in Houston, was rescheduled because of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The event will be held at the Marriott Woodlands Waterway Hotel & Convention Center February 17-18.
The organization, with a membership of 35, was founded in January 2005.
"It's really going to be an event for rolling up our
sleeves and sort of defining more completely the mission of the
organization," says association President Femi Shote, managing director
of Asset Harvest financial planning in McLean, Va.
"We want to use this conference to form working and
study groups," he says, adding that the association hopes to have
speakers from the NBA Player's Association because the NBA will be
holdings its All-Star game in Houston the same weekend.
As for membership, Shote says the association is not in a hurry to sign up members.
"We are looking for people who have a CFP
designation who have an interest in the sports area and are not just
kicking the tires," he says.
