David E. Canter will take over as head of the registered investment advisor segment of Fidelity Clearing & Custody Solutions, Fidelity announced on Monday.

Canter succeeds Bob Oros, who left the firm in January to become CEO of HD Vest. Canter will oversee sales and relationship management for the RIA Segment.

Matthew Chisholm, who previously reported to Canter as senior vice president of business analytics and consulting, will assume leadership of the practice management and consulting group previously headed by Canter. In his new role, Chisholm oversees a team of more than 20 pracitce management, technology and operations and  business consultants.

Canter joined Fidelity in 2009 as chief operating officer for the RIA custody business. In 2010, the company tapped him to strengthen and expand its practice management and consulting business that's focused on helping advisors accelerate growth, streamline their operations and manage risk, Fidelity said.

Durng Canter's tenure in practice management, the team launched a number of new programs, including an M&A Leaders Forum and M&A reports, RIA Benchmarking, and eLearning Exchange.

Fidelity Clearing and Custody has more than $1.7 trillion in assets under administration and serves 3,000.
