Candidates scheduled to take a CFP exam scheduled for Sept. 22 through Sept. 29 will now have the option of doing so through a remote proctoring option, the Certified Planning Board of Standards announced on Thursday.
The remote proctoring option also will be available for the November exam dates, with a testing window of Nov. 3 through Nov. 10, and with registration scheduled to open on July 29, the board said.
The remote proctoring option will be in addition to the traditional testing center options provided by CFP Board’s testing administrator, Prometric, the board said.
The board noted that the remote options, will be available to eligible individuals currently registered for the September exam, as well as eligible individuals who register for the exam before the Sept. 8 deadline.
Candidates eligible for the remote test include those who need to travel more than 50 miles to a Prometric testing center and those who have health concerns, the board said. It added that all eligible candidates for the remote proctoring option must meet technology requirements.
The board noted that more than 8,000 people annually take the step of preparing and sitting for the CFP exam. Due to the pandemic, it was postponed from July.
CFP Board CEO Kevin R. Keller said they believe that a remote proctoring option for candidates who have health conditions and other situations that may prohibit them from safely visiting a testing center will support their goal of becoming CFP professionals and protect public health. “The health and safety of our stakeholders has been paramount as CFP Board has considered how best to continue our examination program during this uncertain time,” he said.
He added that the board will work closely with Prometric, which has implemented strict social distancing and sanitation protocols for its testing procedures during the pandemic and has been steadily re-opening testing centers in recent weeks.
