MPI, a Lawrenceville, N.J.-based consulting firm specializing in business valuation, has appointed advisory vets David Eckstein as managing director of the firm’s new Seattle office, and Thomas Berg, Jr., as managing director of its new office in San Francisco, the company recently announced in a news release.

Eckstein and Berg formerly served as co-leads of Deloitte Advisory’s U.S. estate, gift, and GST (Generation Skipping Tax) tax valuation practice. Eckstein, with 30 years of business valuation experience, was also a founder of FMV Opinions, and Berg, with more than 20 years of business valuation experience, was an FMV shareholder.

Both men have provided valuation services for some of the wealthiest families and largest privately-owned companies in the country. Eckstein has served as an expert witness in U.S. Tax Court and other jurisdictions, while Berg has also testified in several jurisdictions.

In addition to MPI’s new Seattle and San Francisco offices, which opened in January 2021, the company has several offices located on the East Coast and in the Midwest. Its expansion comes at a time of increased demand for valuation work driven by potential changes to the U.S. Tax Code and the continued generational wealth transfer.
