David Canter of Fidelity is making a run for the money in the upcoming Boston marathon to benefit the CFP Board's Center for Financial Planning, CFP Board Center announced Monday.

Canter, who is the newly appointed head of the registered investment advisor segment at Fidelity Clearing and Custody Solutions, also is an avid runner. The Boston marathon on April 17 will be Cantor’s tenth marathon. He will raise money for the center by having sponsors for his effort.

In raising money through the run for the center, Canter says he wants to help promote the financial planning profession and help bring more young people, minorities and women into financial planning. The goals of the center are to increase diversity in the field and raise the profile of financial planners through the Women’s Initiative, the Career Center, scholarship programs and events such as the Academic Research Colloquium, says Marilyn Mohrman-Gillis, executive director.

Canter’s run is part of the center’s fundraising campaign, which has a goal of $100,000. To date, $30,450 has been raised.
