Financial advisor Forrest Williams Jr. has gone independent with the launch of The Opus Group in Virginia Beach, Va., which he achieved by joining LPL Financial’s broker-dealer and corporate registered investment advisor platform, enabling him to leverage LPL as custodian, LPL announced today in a news release.

Williams, who is managing partner at The Opus Group, was formerly an investment advisor representative with MML Investors Services, where he managed approximately $150 million in brokerage, advisory and retirement plan assets. The Opus Group website reports that Williams' new business primarily works in the areas of asset management and corporate retirement plans.

Williams entered the financial advice field in 1993, combining an interest in finance with his desire to make a real difference in the lives of his clients. After 27 years with MML, Williams said in the news release, he decided to partner with LPL in order to have more control over his business and to enhance his service to clients.

LPL Financial, headquartered in Fort Mill, S.C., San Diego and Boston, is the nation’s largest independent broker-dealer.
