iCapital Network, a financial technology platform that provides access to alternative assets for high-net-worth investors and their advisors, is taking steps to further target advisors.

Its online portal allows advisors to access, research and invest in private investments. Within the past year, the founders and management team have secured strategic investments and formed partnerships with some of the largest institutions in the wealth advisory industry, including BlackRock, Fidelity Institutional, Morgan Stanley and UBS.

“Our goal is to be the industry “pipes” for connecting the HNW marketplace with alternative investments, so we plan to deepen and expand our strategic relationships with our current distribution partners and develop new relationships across the wealth management industry, including with RIAs, IBDs and wirehouses. We also plan to engage and strengthen relationships with more general partners,” said Lawrence Calcano, CEO of iCapital Network.

Calcano adds, “We have significantly added relationships on both sides of our market – distribution platforms and alternative asset managers. In 2017, we doubled the number of platforms that use our technology to link [general partners] to the HNW market and have quadrupled the number of underlying investors in the funds that we service.”

Last month, iCapital expanded its education section on its website with whitepapers, short reports, blogs, market research and podcasts to assist advisors and investors understand how alternative investments fit within their portfolios based on different market conditions.

Mr. Calcano adds, “We work with many great firms in the industry, and part of developing those relationships involves securing their confidence to outsource parts of their business to iCapital.”

In September 2017, iCapital acquired a U.S. private equity access fund platform from Deutsche Bank.

iCapital’s platform provides access to alternative investments for as little as $100,000. Wealth management firms, private banks and broker-dealers can utilize the network as an alternative investment resource for their advisors and portfolio managers.
