Dr. Stuart J. Heckman, an associate professor and the director of the Personal Financial Planning Ph.D. program at Kansas State University, has been appointed academic editor of the Journal of Financial Planning, the Financial Planning Association and the Journal announced Wednesday.

Heckman, who will serve a two-year term, will review and evaluate research manuscripts to determine if they proceed to the Journal's double-blind peer review process. He will also provide guidance to the Journal staff.
                                                   
The Journal of Financial Planning is published monthly and focuses on expanding the body of knowledge in the financial planning profession. Launched in 1979, the Journal features articles, interviews, columns and peer-reviewed technical contributions that are designed to be beneficial to financial planners and their work.

"Stu's extensive knowledge and experience as an academic in the profession will be invaluable to uphold the high standard of content published by the Journal each month," said FPA Executive Director and CEO Lauren M. Schadle.

Heckman is a recipient of FPA's Best Research Award and serves on editorial boards of Financial Planning Review and Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning. His research has also been featured in numerous publications including Financial Services Review, Journal of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Financial Planning, Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning and more. He is a financial planner with the fee-only financial planning firm, CGN Advisors, based in Manhattan, Kan. He succeeds Dr. Barbara O'Neill.
