Jargon is usually a bad thing, but there are four marketing terms you should know and put into practice on a regular basis.
If you want to be better at marketing in a digital world, learn these terms and know what they mean. If they become part of your marketing strategy, your business will be more successful!
Flawsome
One of the reasons this blog is called “Social Business” is because of the importance in showing your personal side in today’s professional world. Clients want to work with humans and so do prospects when they are deciding who to hire.
One great way to have a fun brand for your firm or you as an individual is to be "flawsome"—being awesome by showing flaws.
Think about the funniest story you ever heard at a cocktail party. It probably made you closer to the storyteller. Now think of how you can apply humor to your business by laughing at yourself (without getting yourself in trouble).
Snackable
We live in an era of information overload. People cannot keep up with the overwhelming number of words thrown at us each day. That means your messages are not going to be read as much as you hope and they may not be read at all.
Content can no longer be long winded. We want information that is to the point. Remember the old saying, "Time is money"? It is true. Get your message across quickly and you will save the recipient time and they will reward you by reading your content, sharing it, taking action, etc.
If content is in digestible chunks, it will be more successful. It will be "snackable."
Marknetting
Successful marketers will create an inbound marketing strategy, also sometimes referred to as permission marketing, to create new business. It is the opposite of traditional advertising that pushes marketing messages on people, also known as interruption marketing.
In a world where we are submitted to ad after ad after ad, newer-age marketing techniques that create searchable content like blogs, podcasts and video are having more success. This content can be found through search engines, which help draw in potential business.
Successful Web sites not only host this content, but now they need to help funnel the traffic into a lead pipeline and eventually convert them into clients.
"Marknetting" is a term that is a Byrnes Consulting original. It is the combination of marketing and netting. Kind of like baiting the hook, casting it out and drawing in the fish, then catching it on the line, scooping it in the net and landing it in the boat.
(Note: Do not get this one confused with "magnetting," which the urban dictionary describes as the act of using a magnet to destroy a hard drive in the event that the FBI, police or anyone else come to take your computer and use it against you in court.)
Mocial
If anyone is out there burying their heads in the sand, ignoring the mobile trends exploding in front of us, they are living in the dark ages. If you have a smart phone, you are likely so addicted to it that you are rarely ever more than three feet away from it.
Handheld device benefits are just being realized and they are going to revolutionize all industries.
Another revolution in the way we communicate is coming from social media. The vast majority of Americans now have a social media profile and they are using these social networks for personal and professional reasons.
So what’s "mocial"? You guessed it—the combination of mobile and social. As awful as this term sounds, watch how these two trends converge and change the world. They already are.
