According to internal e-mail, the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors has announced that it has canceled its Spring 2020 conference in Denver because of health concerns amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. The conference was set to run from May 6 through May 9 and was to be held in the Hyatt Regency Denver Colorado Convention Center, according to the NAPFA website.
The Financial Planning Association, meanwhile, said it had canceled its FPA Retreat 2020 in Cedar Creek, Texas. That meeting was set to run May 4-7.
The NAPFA e-mail, sent to members by CEO Geoffrey Brown, said, “We have spent the past week monitoring the situation and working with our partners in Denver in hopes of moving forward with the event. The health and safety of NAPFA members and event participants has always been our first priority and we wanted to confirm that hosting the event would align with that guiding principle.”
Brown said that the association will give a full refund registration with no fees. The association’s hotel block reservations will be canceled.
Brown wrote that next week the association will announce its plans to deliver part of the conference program virtually.
The organization said that its conference last year drew more than 500 attendees to Austin, Texas. Early fees, according to the NAPFA website, were $995 for members registering before March 27 and $1,195 for those registering after March 27.
The Financial Planning Association Retreat, meanwhile, usually draws about 350 people, said FPA spokesperson Ben Lewis.
