RBC Wealth Management recently announced Advisor Amy Whittington and Angelica Nelson have joined the firm as branch managers to oversee operations in the Houston Galleria and the Denver Tech branches.

Whittington joins RBC as branch manager in the Houston location and comes with over 20 years of experience in wealth management.

Nelson joins with 18 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining RBC, Nelson led branch offices at Scottrade/TD Ameritrade and helped lead changes in management initiatives.

The recruitment of Nelson and Whittington is part of RBC’s initiative to bring more women into the firm. RBC announced its plan to hire more women in a variety of roles and leadership positions, according to a news release from the firm.

According to a report from The Bureau of Labor Statistics, women represent only 31 percent of all financial advisors and only 23 percent hold the CFP designation.

As a response to the lack of women financial advisors, RBC recently launched a new training program.  The associate financial advisor role is designed to bring in a more diverse pool of candidates, including women. The program offers training, mentorship, and support to candidates as they pursue a career in financial advisory.

Whittington’s plan is to increase diversity at her branch in Houston through an RBC employee resource group called the Women’s Association of Financial Advisors or WAFA. The program aims to provide support for the recruitment and retention of women financial advisors and women in branch leadership roles.
