TD Ameritrade has rolled out a voice-controlled device on the Google Assistant designed to empower investors to manage their investments, according to a company release.

Clients using any device with the Google Assistant built in, including smart speakers like the Google Home, Smart Displays, smartphones, Android Auto, watches and more will be able to more easily access their accounts, both at home and on the go.

TD Ameritrade said once authenticated, clients can simply ask their Assistant by saying “Hey Google, check my TD Ameritrade portfolio” to gain insight into their current holdings, hands-free.

Voice-enabled technology has been gaining rapid momentum with the intelligent assistants such as Siri by Apple, Alexa by Amazon, Cortana by Microsoft and Bixby by Samsung. The Google Assistant is available on more than a billion devices, and Google also says that active users quadrupled in 2018.

Further, a study by Google revealed that 72% of individuals who own a voice-activated speaker rely on the device as part of their daily routine.

TD Ameritrade pointed out that the device was built with data security and privacy in mind. It explained that on shared devices like Google Home, when clients ask about their portfolio, the Assistant will respond only with percentage changes—not specific monetary values.

The Assistant also received high marks for accuracy, the release noted.
