• I want to downsize, but I have so many memories here

• I’ll never go into a senior center again

• All my friends are back at work

• I’m afraid to tell my friends that I’m not enjoying retirement

• Every day feels like groundhog day

• I’m old and hate it

That’s just a dozen or so of the things that come across my desk and that we use role-play sessions to address and learn about. I have another 25 of these unseen, non-financial issues that your clients are dealing with and don’t know who to turn to for help (email me if you want them). It’s real life retirement.

It’s a powerful wake-up call and not something that’s going away.  Next month we are launching a series of online, paid support groups for people who are recently retired. Yes, people are willing to pay to be part of a support group based on issues they are dealing with in retirement.

The first group we are starting is for women struggling with their recently retired husband. This is by far the most common situation that comes up for couples. So many women are at wits end because their husband won’t do anything, go anywhere, or call a friend, and just watches TV or wants to tag along with them all day. They love their husband and want the best for him, but they also want their own retirement, time, space and friends; they have tried everything to accomplish it but can’t seem to break through.

In other words, your clients are reaching out to us, because you’re not reaching out to them to help them deal with and address their biggest issues, struggles and concerns. All of which, by the way, can’t be fixed with money or a traditional retirement plan.
