von Borstel said that his time is primarily spent providing financial planning services to his clients, some of whom live as far away as Abu Dhabi, as well as investment management to a lesser extent. He noted that as a fee-only RIA, he could provide his clients with added transparency.
“My clients want a coach; they don’t want me to sell product,” he said. “I wanted to do what was best for clients, and what was best was change. I’ve always had my own office; this is just about me leaving the brokerage world. Its about freedom, its about choice.”
