A veteran Wells Fargo advisor who managed $250 million in client assets will join a new Portland, Maine, branch of Alex. Brown, a division of Raymond James.
Eric Dexter, who has been in the financial services industry for nearly 25 years and serves a diverse clientele, including families, nonprofit organizations and private institutions, has since September served as managing director for part of Alex. Brown’s Atlantic region in Portland, managed by regional director Brett Kellam, a company press release said.
“After conducting extensive due diligence on the ground at Alex. Brown in New York and Raymond James in Florida, what started out as an evaluation for our plan B, quickly turned into our plan A,” Dexter said in a statement. “We had access to people in every department that we felt we needed to see, as well as to executive management. We realized that by joining Alex. Brown, we would have access to all of the advantages of this boutique wealth management firm, along with the strengths of a much larger, national wealth management firm.
Alex. Brown president Haig Ariyan said while the firm has focused on growth at its branch locations, the addition of Dexter provided an opportunity to augment the Atlantic region.
“Alex. Brown and Raymond James remain committed to adding the best financial advisors in the profession, and Eric is an example of that,” Ariyan said. “We are focused on adding talent to the existing Alex. Brown national footprint, which will allow for meaningful growth."
The release noted that Dexter was recognized as one of Barron’s Top 1,000 Financial Advisors in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2017, and was named to the Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisors list in 2018 and 2019.
Alex. Brown, a division of Raymond James, was originally founded in 1800, becoming the nation’s first investment bank. Alex. Brown advisors offer financial planning and wealth management services for high-net-worth individuals and institutions.
